Matariki mā Puanga: Te Puna Ora o Mataatua celebrates Matariki with Mataatua whānau

Matariki hunga nui. Nau mai e te tau hou Māori.

Ka rere ngā purapura a Matariki
Nau mai e te tau hou Māori.

Nei rā te mihi maioha atu kia koutou Mataatua whānui, who joined Te Puna Ora o Mataatua at the Whakatāne Surf Lifesaving Club in Ōhope i te ata nei, for our annual Matariki Celebration.

He karakia, he hautapu, kōrero, he kaitahi te mahi.

As the morning mist lifted from Te Moana-a-Toi, our whānau gathered as one – rangatahi alongside kaumātua, pakeke and pēpi, all under our whetū Matariki and Puanga.

The sound of tamariki katakata mingled with the gentle karakia that opened our celebration, reminds us that kotahitanga isn’t just a concept – it’s the mauri of our community.

Kia kaha Mataatua whānau. Until we gather again, may the light of Matariki and Puanga guide our steps and remind us that we belong to something greater than ourselves.
