Ko wai mātou I About us

Tarawera Medical Centre was established in 1989 and is situated in the heart of Kawerau. With over  4,500 patients enrolled in the practice, Tarawera Medical Centre plays a pivotal role in supporting the Kawerau community’s health and wellbeing. In March 2024, the practice was purchased by Te Puna Manawa o Tarawera, a joint partnership between Te Puna Ora o Mātaatua, Green Cross Health and Tūwharetoa Mai Kawerau Ki Te Tai.

If you’re tired of working under a model of care that doesn’t align with your own values and you’re a purpose driven practitioner who is committed to improving health outcomes for communities, then get in touch with us today. We’re interested to hear from all Registered General Practitioner’s.

Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi

Kawerau is considered an outdoor haven with popular landmarks located nearby, such as the Tarawera Falls and Onepu Wetlands. The beautiful scenery doesn’t end there though, as the town is surrounded by pristine rivers, creeks, and walking tracks to entertain your active lifestyle.

Kawerau has become increasingly popular for first home buyers and is renowned for its affordable housing market. However, if you would prefer to live abroad, Kawerau is centrally situated from Ohope Beach (40mins), Rotorua (50 mins) and Tauranga (80mins).
