We provide critical repairs to Māori owned homes on Māori owned land.

We coordinate critical repairs to homes across Mataatua/Eastern Bay of Plenty and design 5-10 year home maintenance plans.

We are members of the Māori Housing Network that is managed by Te Puni Kōkiri.

Housing Programme

We are members of the Māori Housing Network and provide Social Housing services across Mataatua/Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Since 2016, we have repaired 54 whare across Mataatua. We will begin our next tranche in October 2019, repairing another 10 whare.

Components

First, we begin with house property inspections and draft property reports that identify critical repairs. We then source quotes to fix the problems.

A repair schedule and budget is then submitted for approval to Te Puni Kōkiri.

Once approval received, we coordinate with the whānau and builders to complete all the repairs.

In conjunction with the repairs, we design 5-10 year home maintenance plans for the whānau and provide advice on how to independently work towards repairing non-critical repairs.

The home maintenance plans can include participating in DIY workshops at local trade shops.

Criteria

This programme only covers critical repairs. This might include access to power, fresh water, wastewater drainage and having a warm dry home.

Homes that are listed as part of the Māori Housing Network must be Māori owned houses on Māori owned land.

Rentals are not eligible. Housing on collective Māori owned land is also not eligible.

Referrals

We do not decide which homes make the list to be repaired. But we can register your interest with Te Puni Kōkiri.

Once your house has been approved for repairs it normally takes 9-12 months from assessment to completion.

On average we repair 12-15 homes per annum.
