Ko wai mātou | About us

Te Puna Ora o Mātaatua is the leading regional Māori health and wellbeing provider in the country. He aha te tūnga | About the role

Here at Te Puna Ora o Mātaatua, we do things a little differently to meet the needs of our hāpori. Our Ngā Mata Wai Ora service fuse together Clinical and Kaupapa Māori Frameworks to create a tailored approach for our whānau.

Are you a compassionate and empathetic individual who enjoys listening to and supporting others? Are you a mental health or counselling student looking for practical experience while you study? Are you eager to be part of an organisation that values holistic Kaupapa Māori methodologies?

Our Ngā Mata Wai Ora Team are on the hunt for a Whānau Ora Therapist to support our whānau and particularly our Rangatahi, to achieve emotional wellness. You will join our team of highly skilled practitioners who specialise in fields such as alcohol and drugs, mental health, traditional Māori healing and ā wairua. Not only will you be part of an amazing team who genuinely care about others, but you will also have the opportunity to learn on the job, under the wing of three qualified Counsellors and two renowned Rongoa Māori Specialists.

Working alongside our Tū Maia Rangatahi Hub kaimahi, you will tailor your approach to meet the different needs of each Rangatahi you encounter, so it’s important you enjoy working within this space. To keep your role varied and exciting, you will also assist the wider team with their colourful caseloads filled with challenging and complex cases.

If you consider yourself an empath and can relate to others in a warm, accepting, and open-minded way, then this role could be for you!

Nga pūkenga me whai | Your skills and experience

So you can hit the ground running, we’d expect you to bring a few things to the table such as:

  • Experience working in a similar role (including lived experiences), or studying towards a career in Counselling / Mental Health
  • Experience delivering mixed-mode consultations such as one to ones and group mahi
  • Demonstrated data entry skills such as note taking, creating whānau care plans and navigating CMS
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and Counselling code of ethics.

Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi

We are a supportive Kaupapa Māori organisation, committed to developing our kaimahi. As well as offering an attractive professional development budget, we have several opportunities to whakapiki wairua including mau rakau, reo Māori wānanga, instant access to leave and a 37.5 hour working week.

So, if you’re as passionate about our hāpori as much as we are, then we’d love to hear from you!
