Six teams to represent Mataatua at Te Matatini

Defending Te Matatini champions Te Kapa Haka o Te Whānau a Apanui are heading back to nationals as the winners of Ngā Whakataetae Kapahaka o Mataatua 2024.

Twenty-two kapa haka roopu performed on the stage at Te One, Torere on February 23 and 24.

Congratulations to the qualifying teams.
 

Ōhinemataroa ki Ruatāhuna came second, Tauira Mai Tawhiti and Te Taumata o Apanui won third equal, Ōpōtiki Mai Tawhiti took fifth place and Te Kapa Haka o Ruatoki sixth.

All six teams will represent Mataatua at next year’s Te Matatini, Aotearoa’s premier kapa haka festival in New Plymouth.

Te Puna Ora o Mataatua is a proud sponsor of the event that attracted thousands of whānau. 

Hundreds of kaumātua spent time in the Te Puna Ora o Mataatua Kaumātua Zone. 

Hundreds of tamariki received Te Puna Ora o Mataatua bucket hats after they lined up to have a moko stencil, ate some snacks and chilled and played within the whānau zone. 

Ora-a-Kapa sold more than 300 hot and cold inu across the two-day event. 

Rehua Nuku Ora nurses provided health checks and supported the event with first aid support. Ear and podiatry specialists also supported the mobile health bus with assessments.
