Rehua Nuku Ora launches weekly mobile clinic at Taneatua

From April 17, Rehua Nuku Ora will operate as a free walk-in clinic at the Taneatua. A doctor and a nurse will be available from 10am-2pm every Wednesday.

Rehua Nuku Ora is continuing to break barriers to health care by providing a weekly mobile GP-clinic at Taneatua.

From April 17, Rehua Nuku Ora will operate as a free walk-in clinic at the Taneatua Rugby Club car park at McKenzie Street. A doctor and a nurse will be available from 10am-2pm every Wednesday.

Te Puna Ora o Mataatua has relationships with hapū and marae around Ngai Tuhoe who have requested the mobile clinic at their respective area. The Taneatua clinic is a result of that, a platform for consistent access to a doctor and the clinical services they provide.

A significant milestone for Te Puna Ora o Mataatua

The establishment of this weekly mobile clinic marks a significant milestone for Te Puna Ora o Mataatua, as it becomes the first weekly mobile GP clinic for Rehua Nuku Ora.

Te Puna Ora o Mataatua Chief Executive Officer Chris Tooley says the clinic is a natural extension of communities wanting mobile services.

“We learnt during COVID-19 that mobile services are an important health care element, to provide services to isolated and rural townships,” he says.

“There is a waiting list for Rehua Nuku Ora, for hapū, marae and whānau wanting the mobile service in their space. People love the idea of health services coming into their community. Rehua Nuku Ora is the platform which wider integrated care can be provided,” he says.

On a monthly basis, specialists will provide additional services at the Taneatua clinic and over time, other Te Puna Ora o Mataatua health services, such as counselling or Whānau Ora, will also attend the weekly clinic.

Additional health services will be determined by the need of the hapori.

Taneatua whānau can expect everything they would ordinarily get at a doctors’ practice

Enrolling with Rehua Medical is required, whānau can do this at the time of their visit. The benefit of enrolling means you can attend other walk-in clinics at Rehua Medical on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 10.45am.
